My 60th year

After having had a pause on my daily drawing practice, I have started a new series My 60th Year.

I will make a daily drawing from 27-1-26 when I turned 59 to my 60th Birthday 27-1-27. This will record both what happens in my life as well what’s standing out for me in the news. I feel I have missed a lot of news in the time I have stopped making daily drawings.

In my previous daily drawing project ‘1872 Days of Tory Government‘ I made a drawing for everyday of conservative rule from 12 December 2019 until Labour won the last election in 2024. The new project will be a little different as it will be more personal, though there still will be humour.

The drawings will coincide with my renting a studio, I last rented a studio in 2003.

There is something about being on the cusp of turning sixty. I previously made a digital drawing for each year of my life when I was turning 50. At 59 you are not particularly visible, creating daily drawings does make me feel more visible. I am putting my thoughts and experiences of my life at this age, out in the public domain.

The daily drawing will fall into a visual pattern that I, as with the year ahead, cannot predict.

The drawings are up on my Instagram account @jolie.goodman, so if you are interested in how my year progresses follow me on there.
